The Bell That Rings Alone
Midnight whispers through the stone
Cold wind howls where prayers were known
In the tower a hollow tone…
The bell that rings alone
Through the gate of rust and bone
Past the crosses carved in gray
I walked toward the broken church
Where the shadows seemed to pray
Every step the silence screamed
Every breath a frozen stone
Then the darkness split the sky
And the bell began to groan
Eyes were watching in the night
From the graves beneath the rain
Lightning carved the world in white
And the bell cried out again
Hear the bell that rings alone
Calling through the endless night
Every soul that walks these grounds
Feels the cold of unseen sight
Through the thunder, through the storm
Past the fear and broken stone
Somewhere in the dark it waits
The bell that rings alone
Wind and thunder split the sky
Rain like arrows on the ground
Every strike of lightning showed
Silent faces all around
Names carved deep in ancient stone
Stories buried long ago
Then a final flash of light
Showed the truth I feared to know
There it was beneath the tower
Carved in marble, cold and worn
A soldier’s name upon the grave
A life already torn
And the name beneath the rain
Cut my soul down to the bone
For the stone beneath the bell
Carried my forgotten name
Hear the bell that rings alone
Through the thunder and the flame
Every midnight it will call
Whispering the fallen name
For the ones who stood their ground
When the innocent were torn
Every strike upon that bell
Rings for warriors reborn
When the storm had passed away
Only silence filled the air
But the bell still tolls at night…
For the soldier buried there.
