Gates of Fire
Years of war beneath the sun
Steel and blood and endless run
But every road must lead a man
Back to where his life began
Through dust of empires torn apart
A legionnaire returns
Armor scarred by countless wars
His weary spirit burns
The road he walks is lined with ghosts
Of brothers left behind
But one small light still calls him home
The love he longs to find
And the door swings wide…
In the evening glow…
A child runs fast through the falling snow
Father! the young voice cries
Tears of joy in both their eyes
Years of war fade in the night
In that single moment’s light
But fate has drawn a darker breath
A shadow in the flame
An arrow flies through love and flesh
And nothing is the same
The child falls silent in his arms
The world begins to fade
The soldier feels the final cold
As life begins to drain
His blood runs dark upon the earth
His heart consumed by rage
For death has stolen heaven’s gift
Upon his homeward stage
But death was not the end that day
For fury forged his soul
And down into the burning depths
The gates of hell unroll
Through fire… through pain…
Through rivers black with flame
A warrior walks through demon bones
Still whispering his name
My son… my light…
Beyond the burning sky
No hell can hold the will of steel
No demon makes me die
One by one the demons fall
Before his raging blade
The legions of the underworld
Begin at last to fade
The gates of fire break apart
As heaven’s thunder roars
A father climbs through ash and blood
Toward the shining doors
No chains… no flame…
Can break a father’s vow
The armies of the damned have learned
To fear his fury now
My son… my light…
I cross eternity
For love is stronger far than death
And stronger still than me
